STEM

The Cypress School District is proud to offer a dynamic STEM program that supports hands-on, inquiry-based learning in dedicated STEM labs on every elementary school campus. These spaces are designed to help students apply their knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to solve real-world challenges in meaningful and engaging ways.

Our goal is to spark students’ natural curiosity and encourage them to explore the world around them through discovery, investigation, and innovation. By fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills early on, we empower students to question today for a better tomorrow.

Our STEM instruction is aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and engages students in authentic scientific and engineering practices. These include:

  • Asking questions and defining problems
  • Developing and using models
  • Planning and carrying out investigations
  • Analyzing and interpreting data
  • Using mathematics and computational thinking
  • Constructing explanations and designing solutions
  • Engaging in argument from evidence
  • Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information

Through this comprehensive approach, our students learn to think like scientists and engineers—skills that are not only foundational for future careers but also essential for thoughtful participation in an increasingly complex world.
