WHO IS AN EARLY RETIREE?
An Early Retiree is an employee age 55 and older who retires under the State Teachers' Retirement System (STRS) or Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) and has at least 10 years of full-time employment with Cypress School District .
COVERAGE
Early Retirees (and eligible dependents) may participate in the same medical, dental, and vision plans, at the same rates, as full-time bargaining unit members, until reaching age 65. Early Retirees do not receive district-paid life insurance and may not participate in Flexible Spending Accounts or voluntary life and cancer insurance plans.
COST
The retiree's cost share (if any) must be paid to the district before the first day of each month of coverage. Arrangements can be made to pay for up to a year in advance, if desired.
TERMINATION OF COVERAGE
Early Retiree insurance coverage terminates when:
- Retiree reaches age 65 (Termination occurs on the first day of the month in which the retiree turns 65)
- Retiree becomes employed elsewhere and is covered under that employer's group health plan
Dependent coverage ceases upon:
- Dependent reaching age 65
- Retiree reaching age 65*
- Death of retiree*
*Dependent may be eligible for continuation of coverage through COBRA
