About Us

Cypress School District has a proud history of serving the educational needs of our community for more than a century. Officially established in 1895, the district began with a one-acre land donation from Charles Lee Damron, who made it possible to build the community’s first schoolhouse. Cypress trees planted around the schoolyard fence inspired the name “Cypress School.” That first school opened with just 23 students.

Over the years, the district grew alongside the community it serves. At its peak in 1970, Cypress School District operated 12 schools and served nearly 8,000 students. Today, the district continues its legacy of excellence with six schools serving approximately 3,200 students in preschool through sixth grade from the cities of Cypress, Buena Park, and La Palma.

Each of our schools is named in honor of influential civic leaders, school board members, and educators, reflecting the deep roots and strong sense of pride that define our local community. Cypress School District is known for its outstanding schools, high-quality instructional programs, and strong community partnerships.
