Communication in the Event of a Positive Case
If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 at a school site, the entire school community will be notified by the principal. Students and/or employees determined to be a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case, defined as being within 6 feet for 15 minutes or longer, will be contacted by the school principal or other district personnel and receive a high-risk exposure letter from the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA) with instructions to self-quarantine for 14 days. Students and/or employees who were not in close contact but still exposed to a confirmed case will receive a low-risk exposure letter from OCHCA with instructions to monitor for COVID symptoms for 14 days.
Reporting Instructions for Families
If your child or a member of your household has a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 or is awaiting test results, please DO NOT send him/her to school. You must report all suspected or confirmed cases in your household to your school office. School staff will maintain confidentiality and abide by all applicable privacy laws. Anyone with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should remain home in isolation for a minimum of 10 days and may not return to school until symptom and fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication.
COVID-19 symptoms include:
- Fever or chills
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Muscle or body aches
- New loss of taste or smell
- Sore throat
- Congestion or runny nose
- Nausea or vomiting
What Families Can Do to Limit the Spread
Our ability to keep our schools open for in-person instruction will be dependent upon the commitment of students, families, and staff to stay home when sick and adhere to proven safety practices both inside and outside of school. Working together, we can provide for the health and safety of our entire school community and make this a successful school year for our students.
